Lighting
The NoHo space uses a Philips Hue lighting system alongside alternative overhead track lighting. The Philips Hue system is the preferred lighting option, and the main overhead lights are typically kept off.
- Turning lights on/off — Use the remote at the entrance and press the power button.
- Changing the mood — Press the “Hue” button on the remote to cycle through four lighting options.
- Using the app — You can use the main iPad on the credenza to adjust the lights. Alternatively, download the Philips Hue app to control them from your own device, no account needed, just connect to the space’s Hue Bridge.
Adjust freely, but during typical work hours, please check with the space host before adjusting, to make sure it won’t affect the main co-working space.
Please do not permanently modify any of the remote configurations within the app.

At both office entrances, there are two small wall control panels (about the size of a standard light switch) used to control the overhead lights.
The switches are both labeled “Overhead Lights.”
These overhead lights are primarily used for dark or rainy days when natural light is limited and for evening or nighttime work sessions when additional lighting is needed.
How to Use:
- Turn lights ON: Press the top button once
- Turn lights OFF: Press the bottom button once
- Adjust brightness: Use the up/down arrows in the middle to brighten or dim the lights
Sound
The NoHo Space is equipped with 11 Sonos speakers. You can control the music using the Sonos app on the NoHo iPad (located on the credenza), or from your own device by downloading the Sonos app or selecting the Sonos system as an output from your music player.
Speaker Groupings
The speakers should be organized into five separate groupings so that each area can play independently:
- Group 1 — Coworking Area: Coworking Broadway, Coworking Broadway -1, Coworking Crosby, Dining Area, Lounge, DJ Booth
- Group 2 — Bathrooms: Single Bathroom, Men’s Bathroom, Women’s Bathroom
- Group 3: Carmen McRae
- Group 4: Zoom Room 1
- Group 5: Zoom Room 2
Keeping each group separate ensures that pausing music in a Zoom room for a meeting won’t affect the rest of the space.
Setting Up Music in the Sonos App
Start with the coworking area (Group 1):
- On the iPad (located on the credenza), unlock the screen and open the Sonos app.
- At the bottom of the Sonos app, you’ll see a bar showing the current song, volume, and which speakers are active. [insert picture]
- Tap anywhere on the bottom bar to open the full-screen view.
- At the very bottom of the full-screen view, you’ll see the list of speakers the music will play from. Tap on that bar.
- Select only the speakers from Group 1 (Coworking Broadway, Coworking Broadway -1, Coworking Crosby, Dining Area, Lounge, DJ Booth) and tap Apply.
- Swipe down to exit the full-screen view.
- Make sure Spotify is selected as the music source inside the Sonos app—tap the music source icon if you need to switch. If you select any other service, there will be ads.
- Browse or search for a playlist, select it, and press Play.
- Adjust the volume to a comfortable level using the volume slider in the app.
Then set up the remaining groups:
iPad App:
- Once music is playing in the coworking area, tap the system tab at the top of the app to view all of the speaker “groupings”.
- The bathrooms may already be grouped together, but if not, and they are all showing up on separate lines, tap on any one of them.
- When the music screen pops up, tap the bottom bar where you see the name of the speaker, and select the other 2 bathroom speakers, so all three are grouped together.
- Tap out of the pop up screen
- At the top, toggle back to the “Home” Screen
- Select Spotify as the source, search for your playlist and press play.
- Optional: Repeat for Carmen McRae, Zoom Room 1, and Zoom Room 2—but keep each of these on their own separate lines, not combined. This way each room has independent playback.
- Once all five groups are set up, verify that each group is playing its own music by checking the bottom bar as you tap through each group.
iPhone App:
- Once music is playing in the coworking area, swipe up from the very bottom of the screen (don’t tap the bottom bar this time).
- The bathrooms may already be grouped together, but if not, and they are all showing up on separate lines, tap on any one of them.
- When the music screen pops up, tap the bottom bar where you see the name of the speaker, and select the other 2 bathroom speakers, so all three are grouped together.
- Swipe down twice to return to the “Home” screen.
- Select Spotify as the source, search for your playlist and press play.
- Optional: Repeat for Carmen McRae, Zoom Room 1, and Zoom Room 2—but keep each of these on their own separate line, not combined. This way each room has independent playback.

Currently located in the dining area, there is a freestanding DJ booth equipped with two Technics 1200 turntables, two Pioneer CD-DJ decks, two Shure SM58 wireless microphones, and a Pioneer – Creative style 6-channel professional DJ mixer – DJM-V10. The booth connects to the custom speakers via the Sonos Bluetooth system. Please let the space host know before using the DJ booth.
Across from the pink couches is a vinyl listening station with headphones available for personal use. Please follow the instructions below.
Spin Me Some Jazz
- When finished, press the button again and power everything off
- Select your record (browse the collection on the Zoom Room walls)
- Place the record on the platter
- Gently place the arm on the very edge of the record
- Turn the power knob on the turntable to “On”
- Press the power button on the amp (where the headphones are connected)
- Use the amp to adjust the volume to your liking
- When ready, press the Start/Stop button on the record player to begin
